Growing up in the Bronx as the child of Polish and Ukrainian first generation Jewish immigrants, I was afforded the opportunity to spend my time drawing at the Bronx Zoo, and the Bronx Botanical Gardens which resulted in my interest in nature and preservation. My series "Top Predators, and "Stewards of the Earth" reflect this influence. Hanging out at the Cedar Street Tavern with the likes of De Kooning, Guston, and others in the 60's and seventies, and my time with friends at the Chelsea, especially my dear friend Richard Bernstein who had a studio at the Chelsea and shared many adventures with me in those years including me getting into Jagger's birthday party using Tom Brokaw's pass certainly have influenced my work. I wish I remembered more of it... My travels to some 60 countries have also influenced my work as in the Tibetan series, Los Angelitas, and others. I continue to work because I can't imagine life without it. .
