ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work was created while on art residency at Big Ci, in the Wollemi National Park, in New South Wales. Created while completely enmeshed in nature, with a profound love of the surrounding natural world. I hope it inspires in the viewer that sense of belonging in and being at one with the animals ...

Born in Darwin, raised in North Queensland, I studied illustration first out of school, then in the Sydney and South Coast area had a varied artistic career in book design and illustration, painting and drawing, graphic design, fronted a North Queensland council gallery, worked in community art, including painting murals, with teenagers and in remote desert communities and in horse interaction therapy with young people. I have had residencies and exhibitions in Vallauris, South of France and Bilpin north of Sydney and exhibited locally from Bowral, Canberra, South Coast and Wollongong. I love naive and primitive art and have long been fascinated by the expressionists and surrealists. Inspired by childhood images, dreams, mythology and metaphysics, I create animal-human-plant creatures. I'd like to think I'm a shaman of sorts, reconnecting with the divine source of all, which I mainly find in nature.
