A cocky politician is brought down a notch by having been defeated. This colorful piece has an undercurrent of a red, white, and blue palette, a further commentary on the environment that produced this specimen.

As a kid, I was afraid of the dark. Staring into the darkness, I could see monsters, animals, creatures, people cavorting. I was torn between hiding under my pillow and looking to see who or what they were. Growing up, after attending art college, I was interested in theatrical events and film. I wanted to use painting as a way of telling a story, and I did. Working as a scenic artist, I painted backgrounds and sets for The BBC and films such as Scorcese's Shutter Island and The Rolling Stones' concerts. Eventually, I needed to paint about the characters and stories that I still saw fleeting out of the corner of my eye and lingering in my head. These drawings and paintings start as scribbles or paint splashes. I step back and stare into the koas' texture, and slowly, very slowly, figures and stories begin to emerge. That's what I paint and draw. I work in my studio in Glendale, CA where I live with my husband and son.
