I am Guela Tsouladze, an artist born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1959, into a family that blended French and Georgian cultures. My work is deeply inspired by the rich heritage of my upbringing and the eclectic experiences I’ve had in both France and Georgia. My journey has been shaped by the artistic legacies of Sergei Paradjanov, Niko Pirosmani, and Salvador Dalí, as well as the creative freedom I embraced while collaborating with remarkable artists in Paris, Barcelona, and New York. In my art, the mysterious black dot plays a central role. It symbolizes intuition, spontaneity, and a connection that transcends the boundaries of reality and spirituality. Each piece I create is an invitation to unity, celebration, and enlightenment. Over the years, I’ve explored diverse mediums and approaches, from contributing to the transformation of Barcelona's Casa de la Caritat into the Museum of Contemporary Art to crafting Fluxus sculptures with Jean Dupuy and Ben in Georgia. My time in Paris, working alongside Christian Boltanski and others, fueled my desire to experiment and innovate. This spirit continues to guide me as I build bridges between cultures, whether through founding The Batumi Grafikart Festival, The Contemporary Art Center A 41°N / 41°E, or nurturing new talents at the Guelaxi Gang art school. Through my art, I strive to create spaces where people can pause, reflect, and connect. My goal is to evoke a sense of wonder and remind us all of the transformative power of creativity.
