This is a graphite drawing, one of recent series (so far x6) of drawings of 'portraits of trees'. They are more than just studies; I've tried to reveal a little of the history or narrative that the trees have been part of (eg a travellers rest, a hang mans gallows etc). Details within the drawings ...

I am a UK fine artist and designer. 12 months ago I decided to become a full-time artist. I produce work in traditional and digital media, such as paint, photography, video, print, 3D, text and digital work. Although I love to use oil paints, being naturally versatile, I feel perfectly at home mixing traditional and contemporary aspects. My work falls into three distinct areas: landscape, still life and graphic design. I have displayed pieces in several joint exhibitions (Surrey and London) since 2014 and I have sold work through exhibitions and from private commissions. My landscapes have featured in Surrey Life magazine. The landscape, in all its forms is the subject that I am most drawn to, although I often explore other subjects and methods. Alongside landscapes I hold a keen interest in still life. I enjoy the discipline of observation and challenges of execution needed to achieve a result akin to the work of the Dutch masters. When creating a piece of art or design I am mindful of the site specific location that will host the work. My design background is a big influence on my work, as is location (I was born in Liverpool and now live in Surrey). Recently and increasingly, what interests me is my place within a landscape and its relevance to me personally, rather than just what’s observed. I am attracted to the narrative in places, often discovered as a hidden story or hint of history. I am currently exploring the idea of imagined landscapes reconstructed from memories and details noted in different ways. In 2010 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This has accelerated my artistic ambitions and the condition will undoubtedly influence what and how I create. I’ve accepted that Parkinson’s will be an increasing challenge, but I will let my work grow with its influence. It is part of who I am and what I create. As well as producing my own creations, my commercial background allows for the experience needed to answer client briefs. I have an especially strong pedigree in the Real Estate sector. With this service, I provide an offer of prime, individually commissioned art/design created for the built environment.
