I'm interested in these things I call Not-Quite-Grids (NQG). Having realised that these things have a density and a thickness, and that the layering (blend) can be explored using colour then I saw one direction as exploring density, making the grid terrain more dense. There had to be constraints of ...

Digital artist. Born UK 1950, Australian citizen. Live and work in the Redlands [Brisbane] (Quandamooka country). First career as a management systems academic. I develop 'Digital Constructions' which generate digital images. Constructions are made up of lines, colours, shapes organised in 'layers'. Depending on the settings in the structure each construction can generate a 'Cluster' of images. This is an expression of 'Repetition and Variation' which is a fundamental concept of 'Digital Art'. Overall, my work is aimed at the notion of 'Digital Abstraction', the way 'The Digital' and 'The Image' mutually develop each other. My practice is varied developing both still and moving-image artworks on computer. I focus on using everyday desktop software, particularly Procreate (software) running on an Ipad equipped with an apple pen. An Ipad is an expensive pencil and paper, so I explore what the technology can do really well and how it can be pushed beyond conventional ideas of drawing, painting, or photography to express ideas in interesting and innovative ways. I see my works as being 'Digital Visual Constructions' which develop through a series of 'What happens if?' questions until new and unexpected ideas begin to arise from within the work itself. So lots of random connections and unexpected outcomes. Artistically, my happy place is with 'Abstraction' and things combining to create unexpected meanings and emotions, what is often termed 'emergence'. So really my practice is about playing 'What if' until I get an 'interesting' result, and then usually trying to figure out what 'interesting' actually means in that situation.
