Born in India, the Indo-German artist Rubine Singh relocated to Germany in 2003. They were born intersex which means that it wasn't clear from the body at birth if they were a boy or a girl. Being intersex has had a major influence on their art. Rubine's art can best be described as semi-abstract and abstract digital pop art graphics. Their art delves with themes of gender and struggle for identity and reflects the many phases of that struggle. It pulls from a range of influences, including cubism, pop culture and street art. Their art mostly begins on paper and evolves digitally to take its final shape. Rubine's intention is to stay true to the original minimalist idea and still create an interesting visual narrative that conveys the theme. Their art intends to provoke the viewer into digging deeper and exploring the struggles and joys that are processed within the artwork. What makes their art unique is the atypical amalgamation of style, color and theme. Their colors and visual language have a complex depth even when the theme itself might me more mundane.
