Every story has its beginning. During the pandemic, a time of hindsight, I made a linoleum print after a gestural drawing of a naked body that I made on my iPad. Then, I scanned the images and created a laser cut of them. Once I finished all my papers, in a mentoring session with Patricia Van Dalen,...

ARTIST STATEMENT As an interdisciplinary artist, I challenge the temporal and physical expectations of artistic mediums through their direct interaction. By pairing techniques like performance with fabric, video with screen printing, and sewing with photography, I build a new dialogue across eras of time. I have yet to find a space within a society where my own multifaceted identity is at home. However, within my work, I give marginalized social groups a space to transcend misperceptions and painful histories. Like the mixing of mediums to invent new meanings, I am generating a new narrative as a spiritual, and romantic being that transcends the stereotypes of a gay man, husband, immigrant, or Latinx. Repetition and loose of gestural style take agency over ideals of perfection. These visual textures embrace my natural impulses as an act of rebellion to perform societal norms. By repeating visual themes and figures, like facing a fear, they represent overcoming and embracing my queerness.
