ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I employ the tools of civilization and art history – vinyl posters, maps, and old canvas- to conflate cultural and political forces and create layers of social commentary in painting that evoke deep feelings. How we build and destroy ourselves are the materials that I’m interested in. Through rigorous physical approach to the material presence of painting, information is displayed raising questions about the preservation of the past. Pulling things that don’t belong in the art world and willing them into it. The result is a merger of action of worked surfaces to reveal the conflicts intertwined in the everyday. Rhythmic lines of vinyl and canvas twisted and turned serve as the paint for abstraction. John Chamberlain, Jackson Pollack and Lynda Benglis inspire my artwork.
