Robert Pereira Hind was inspired to make the Study series of trees & flowers pieces as a development from my 'Out of Eden' tree artworks. The artist wanted to take a closer look at the trees and plants as a way of getting to know them more intimately. An important element of the work is that each piece is unique and, over the years, will tarnish and change in appearance. As the gold background metamorphoses it will become more atmospheric and dramatic. Robert loves the idea that each piece will age differently. Each piece will forever acquire more drama as time oxidises the gilde. An important element of the work is that each piece, over the many years will slowly oxidise and mature in appearance. While the pictures sit on your wall, the golden background will eventually take on a light and very beautiful tarnish and eventually become atmospheric and characterful looking like nature against a moody sky. Each piece will bring colour and light to any environment, ambient light reflects from the works to exude a warm look and feel. ‘The ‘Out of Eden’ series evokes the gold leaf technique reminiscent of Gustave Klimt (Woman in Gold), and the 18th Century botanic flower renditions not painted but via a photographic technique cross pollinating art interpretations’. Robert Pereira Hind lives in Edinburgh, and is always on the lookout for trees and wild flowers that are both visually striking and relatively isolated. I’ll wait for a day with light cloud and head out with my camera around town. When I get back at my computer I remove all trace of context. I then experiment with various arrangements and layouts to montage several trees or flowers into one picture, or sometimes leave the tree isolated. Material: Gold Leaf Schlag Metal, Gold Size, Photographic Ink Pigment, Shellac + Glazes, MDF board.

Robert Pereira Hind is a fine art photographer who received his BA and MA in photography from the London College of Communication and has exhibited his work internationally ever since. His gold leaf series ‘Out of Eden’ is inspired by Byzantine religious iconography and botanical illustration. Pereira Hind feels a sense of awe within the natural landscape, and in this series of works we see him transform wild flowers & trees into a secular icons. An important element of his work is that each piece is completely unique and, over the years, will tarnish and change in appearance. As the gold background oxidises and in turn, metamorphoses, the work will become more atmospheric and dramatic. He loves the idea that each piece will age differently, and each piece will acquire more character over time.
