A man is obviously in the process of getting a tattoo on his forearm. The motif is the stylized drawing of a family. The man looks to the side with an angry look, almost as if he had been disturbed. But it could also be the pain that makes him angry. Two vases can be seen in the foreground. Has the man lost his family, which he is now tattooing in memory of? Could the vases be urns containing the ashes of the deceased? An irritating feeling of loneliness through loss arises, the picture tells an open story that affects us all sooner or later.

Ralph Hackeland was born in Cologne in 1965, later lived on Lake Constance for many years and has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and designer in Mannheim since studying communication design. In his figurative works, well-known, universal elements and motifs are brought together, creating a dream-like world in the new constellation. The actors seem strangely removed and seem stuck in inevitable developments. The images are snapshots of these developments and become a still image of an inner film, the further course of which is decided by the viewer.
