My mother kept everything, especially wooden things that had been frequently used and dearly loved. She kept old games and parts of croquet sets, tennis rackets and what would now be considered "vintage," toys. As a child I noticed how she seemed to place great value on these old objects even when they were broken and no longer functional. So when I became an artist I began combining old objects like these to give them purpose and a new life as art. MAKE A RACKET is one work of mine from the racket series. I think of each racket as if it is a young child skipping, dancing and playing on a playground. Each racket/child is young enough so their halo's are still intact bouncing along with them. MAKE A RACKET is brightly colored and having a great time just being himself. The work is made from a tennis racket, a wooden banana nose, wooden coat hanger arms, dental mold teeth, felt tongue, model propeller, wood, shoe stretcher feet, leather straps, hardware and paint.
