Experimental screen print on silk in two part 130 x 137cm | 51 x 54in 101 x 137cm | 40 x 54in Song of the sea depicts the idea of rhythm and music held in the layers and textures of the aquatic ocean. About the information that are in and transmitted through the marine biome that holds the greatest proportion of earth. Making this work was feeling of there being different pockets, tunes and rhythms within the ocean space. How the sea changes, moves constantly, in a state of impermanence however always holds space on earth of tranquility and transience. I find a real beauty in the ocean, it holds so much wisdom simply in its natural being. From moment to moment the ocean changes, sometimes its still, powerful, chaotic, calm, transient, warm, cold, rough, soft. It’s always in a state of change from one moment to another. But at the core it is always the same. There is a beautiful wisdom in this. Song of the sea is a reminder of that beautiful spark of wisdom that our powerful oceans hold.

Janine Saul (b. 1997, London) is a conceptual textile artist. Janine's intrigue in the art of screen-printing stemmed from an interest in the possibilities of creating dimension and texture on fabric surfaces. By challenging the traditionally linear formula of the screen-printing process through manipulating screens, creating resists, and developing dye formulas, Janine has cultivated an experimental practice that implements her discoveries to create form-focused, layered outcomes rooted in depth and emotion. While playing with textural quality by pushing the boundaries of print, Janine's work is heavily informed by her lifestyle as a world traveller, gathering inspiration and teachings from around the world to create intricate pieces that aim to understand the many layers and constructions of the human experience, using colour and dimension to embody a space, time, moment and feeling. Describing her approach to creation as a desire to 'bring the invisible to the visible', Janine's work aims to reveal what happens in the spaces beyond the perceived eye. Through spatial installations, Janine employs movement to expose, conceal and reveal spaces to ourselves. Through her travels, Janine has positioned her work in diverse locations from the remote jungle of Mexico to conventional gallery spaces and has exhibited globally across London, New York, Mexico, Peru, France, Italy, and Greece.
