"Monopoly Chanel Protest Disaster No. 02" is a limited edition handmade artwork on painted birch panel with a gloss resin poured by hand over each panel. Due to the hand finished nature of this Limited Edition series of small artworks, each one is unique and created by the artist's hand. This artwork is part of my Luxurious Disaster: A 21st Century Tale of Love, Fame & Tragedy series of pop artworks. I have created a loosely connected group of artworks which take as their subjects tragedy, wealth, current events including pandemic life, vintage board games, comic book art, 20th Century Americana, consumer products and fashion luxury brands, iconic imagery, politics, prescription drugs and the concept of failing technology through glitched computer data corruption. These unique one-of-a-kind artworks appropriate source material from current events, social media, pop culture and art history. I use oil paint, enamel and screen printing as a means to create my original paintings. For this signed, very limited edition series of 20 panels, I utilize a museum certified reproduction company to reproduce each painting onto a small hand painted wood board. This panel is then finished by hand in my studio in a gloss color paint on the side to compliment the artwork and a permanent hard gloss resin coating is applied individually in the artist's studio, guaranteeing extremely long conservation over time. These works are a critical take on the haves versus the have-nots while maintaining a sense of humor. I am attempting to fuse separate worlds together — the explosive and visual power of wealth, fashion and money juxtaposed against the reality of crisis, tragedy, politics and power.

As a contemporary artist Taylor Smith explores social awareness through abstraction and figuration with elements of science, traditional still life and portraiture. Smith uses a wide variety of materials and mediums including reclaimed silkscreen frames, discarded analog technology, luxury brands and commercial packaging. She also incorporates mathematics, organic chemistry, mechanics and photography into her work. Frequently working with 8mm film and other analog film mediums, Smith blends the practice of filmmaking and painting. Her recent work explores the relationship between pop culture, luxury brands, political upheaval and crisis to create an unexpected and transformative experience.
