across chicagoland, more than 150 million trees are gracefully preserved, due in large part to the care of the city and its residents. in native american philosophy, the many species, or nations, of animal and plant life, have lived on this earth long before us ; thus, they all have some general wisdom, or particular teaching, to impart ; if we can pay attention. with a population of over 9.5 million people, chicagoland then, will provide every resident with 15 or more wisdom trees, as a council of elders ; sentinels, whispering singers of memory, or 'imaginary' friends. inspired by the natural environment in the city, and also by the dramatic cinematography of early black & white films, i have been walking and taking photographs as a virtual sketchbook of light and shadow. the photo sketches record the temporary results of an interaction between our artificial 'permanent' structures, and the dynamic structures of nature, which we experience as 'forces' in our greater environment. here then, is a 'symbolism of the insignificant', which in fact documents how our resistance is eventually overcome, and incorporated into a new creation, moment by moment. each of these photos will be a signed original, printed with archival pigment inks on heavy weight pure cotton paper. *in inches, the image area is 11 and 14 2/3, vertical or horizontal, with a border of 1.5, making the sheet size 14 and 17 2/3.
