Dove is often associated with the concept of peace and pacifism, and the olive branch is a symbol of peace devising from the customs of ancient Greece. So a kind of mythological factor from the ancient world brought the dove and olive branch together as an icon, which gives an expression of the life of peacefulness that the great majority of us what to lead. Their association took firm root among people, especially with the World Peace Congresses that took place the Second World War, which used Picasso’s doves as logos. Picasso created many variations of his dove with olive branch, and it became one of the signs of the peace movement of the second half of the twentieth century . China is also a peaceful nation and symbolic meaning has played a significant role in the lives of the Chinese. The nature of our written and spoken language has contributed to the rich vocabulary of symbolism. The large numbers of homophones in Chinese means that words with different meanings become associated with each other due to a similarity of sound when spoken. As well as linguistic symbolism, there are symbols which originated from ancient cosmological and mythical beliefs. Symbolic meanings form an intrinsic part of culture and readily understood by us. The Chinese writing of lotus is ‘荷花’, and peace is’ 和平’. 荷(ho)sounds similar to和(ho), that the image of lotus is associated with a kind of gentle serenity of mind-set. Such inner peace is deemed precious in traditional Chinese culture and we should make an effect to cultivate our spirits. From ancient times, the lotus is present in figurative form, representing beauty, perfection, purity and grace. Therefore most of the Chinese people love lotus for the unique virtues. I would create 20 pieces of art works titled as ‘A Eulogy to Peace’ , using lotus and dove as the configurative element to convey the notion of pacifism. I hope that I could add one more chapter to a story of peaceful symbols that began many years ago.

Wong Tsz Mei's interest in painting started at her childhood. She was born in Hong Kong, and in 1997 completed a Master of Arts on the art history of antiquitiesat Tsinghua University of China. She participated in many exhibition and expositions in H.K. and China, and was awarded certificates of merit several times. Her natural enthusiasm for art reveals an ability to let others know how to appreciate arts and even to create it.She is both an artist and an instructor.Chinese painting is fundamentally a linear art. Thus, the dexterous manipulation of the brushwork for precise expression is an essential prerequisite.I'm a contemporary painter, though the vital tradition is the underlying theme, would adopt an approach in a more structural form;the emphasis of spatial position, visual shape of content are placed in a work of art.My paintings show how intensely I grappled with the different perceptions to transform artifice entirely into nature and nature entirely into art.
