About The Artwork

Ye Olde Salutation Inn 1240AD A Trip Back To The 30’s My inspiration for this painting is my love of nostalgia, going back to a time when life was at a much slower pace without the technology of the now modern day. The pub is still open today but I’m afraid the surrounding area has changed somewhat. In this painting we’re looking up St Nicholas Street towards Hounds Gate. A lady is looking into the window of J.H. Toby’s est; 1929 considering her next purchase while the glamorous lady walking down the street glances across at the workman smoking his pipe and reading his paper as he awaits his lift to work. You can almost hear the sound of the next horse and cart clip clopping along from around the corner on the beautifully painted cobbles taking us back to the wonderful nostalgic life of the 30’s #oldnottingham #oldinns #nostalgia #buildings #cobbles #salutation #publichouses #originalart #deviantart

Stephen Maddocks grew up in the 60s and right from an early age had a flair for being creative in many aspects of craftwork. He spent much of his life as a master woodworker and it wasn’t until later years developed his skills as an artist which he now pursues full time painting mainly with oils and acrylics on canvas and also developing sculpture using natural slate. Working from his purpose made workshop studio which he designed and built himself he finds this avenue creating beautiful pictures and individual sculptures most rewarding and satisfying. His works are inspired mainly from his love of creation all around and he says “ Wherever we travel we can find beautiful scenery within the natural creation of our beautiful earth. It’s only man through greed and corruption that has brought its ruin but I believe in the very near future all things will be set straight when the one who created all things will bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”
