ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Having re-discovered some sketches I had made upon small villages in Tuscany I painted my impressions of Vetulonia on a canvas-wrapped gallery frame and onto the edges. Vetulonia is a part of Castiglione della Pescaia in Tuscany, Italy, where I was years ago and for some days. That small old Etruscan village, all the buildings there in the same colors and shadows of sand inspired me to paint my impressions, and therefore I used mainly white for the facades, doors and windows, and some in red, because of the heat of the summer, and some blue because of the sea, as the village is situated by the sea. Most of all, I loved the small stairs and the flat steps within in the pavements up to the only hilly street of Vetulonia. I remember there was only one street leading me to that work. Original is in exposition at "AK-Galerie" Graz, and is only available at the end of the exposition, after 15th Oktober 2024;
