Borrowing American lawyer, activist and author Bolton Hall’s book title “Three acres and liberty” 1907 and it’s back to the land, self sufficiency message, the Artist uses the title for her painting as a mantra, an idealistic wish for economic freedom for all women. The Painting, from the Artist’s series “ The great divide “ explores Parr’s experience of being female and therefore stereotyped by society as being feminine, and the conflicts and questions often raised by this, as always with her painting, expressed through abstracted scape and form. When painting, she is completely immersed in the process, building a reverberating relationship with the canvas, a push and pull of spontaneity and controlled intention. As much is taken away from the painting as is added, with constant building and washing of the canvas, aiming to invoke an atmosphere drawn from the process, the initial emotional trigger and the colour palette employed. She uses palette knife, cloth, brush and sponge to add, remove, scratch, blur and work the paint, often drawing into the paint with charcoal. The painting is signed on the canvas side and ready to hang.

Gina Parr is a is a bestselling painter and photographer who 'paints' with her camera when traveling. The Artist says, "Scape, memory and identity are ever present in my work. My childhood, spent diversely in wide-open spaces with my father fishing for mackerel and at home with my mother's hoarding and mental health issues, defined my relationship to the land and sea: both the spirit and memory of wide open space and the dark uncertainty of the deep. My work is an expression of the intermingling of joy and pain, love and loss: the human condition and tracks the line between abstraction and figuration. I seek to find an emotional balance within my work, which I hope will speak to the viewer’s inner self.” Originally receiving a First Class BA Honours Degree in Fine Art, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study set design, leading to a 25 year career Production Designing many notable shows for BBC and ITV Television, returning to her full time Art practice in 2007. She has lectured at Chelsea College of Art and Nottingham University and has widely exhibited in galleries and art fairs in the UK and Europe. Parr has works in numerous Worldwide collections including; Keble College Oxford, President Boston's Children's Museum USA, Director Jestico + Whiles Architects, Goldman Sachs and Vedanta London, has completed commissions in UAE, Belgium, London, USA, and Glen Scotia Whisky for a special release in 2025. She was selected for the RA Summer Show 2024, the RWA Photography Open and the ING Discerning Eye 2023.
