ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is referencing my childhood in the 50s, cowboys, comics (the stripes & explosion) and sweets (candy). The title refers to both the little boy and the candy shrimps. This is my second painting on this theme and forms part of an occasional group of paintings set around childhood in the 50s and 60s. Hand painted in many layers of acrylic in order to arrive at a very flat and even finished work. Unframed with D rings screwed to the back of stretcher frame & ready to hang.

I was born in 1952. Originally from London I've lived in St.Ives, Cornwall UK for over 30 years. I began painting in the 1970s and have been exhibiting since the 80's, I studied briefly at the Hammersmith school of art in London. I've always been fascinated by the Golden Age of popular culture & some of the imagery that finds it's way into my paintings comes from this period. I find the distance of time brings about a poetry that greatly appeals to me and which I would describe as nostalgia without sentimentality.
