About The Artwork

this is a self-portrait, idealistic with symbols , representing the beauty of culture and scenery about Vietnam. The broken melody of peace and independence of Vietnam shows the mourning of the artist as she helplessly faces the loss of her beloved land after the communism take over. The black willows hanging over her head represent the iron curtain taking over Vietnam and her dreams of the wings of freedom are shown lifting in prayer the awesome beauty of Halong Bay, the sandy dunes, the rice paddies, the lotus grace representing vietnamese womanhood to be preserved for future generations. The sadness in self-portrait is shown by tears of blood after such long wars of invasion, while her hands are folded in fear, not being able to do anything to save her country.
