About The Artwork

"How much space does a person need? Space can be form as well as time. What creates space? Distance or proximity? Intimacy, self-focus or clearer outline. The painting is part I of a Triptych - Part I is called 'Inside'. It represents the inward turn, the struggle between the inside and the outside and the emancipation of the inner world. The triptych was a process of many different layers .At this time I was in an artist residency in Lisboa, I started collecting photos of tiles that have an old history in Portugal. I wanted to have a connection with the location where I was working for 2 months. I transferred these photos on the canvas. At the same time I started transferring selected parts/ texts of the book "Steppenwolf" from Hermann Hesse, which totally vibrating with my soul. It fits to an emotion with which I started the triptych. And I described it with these words: SOLITUDE IS INDEPENDENCE. IT HAD BEEN MY WISH AND WITH THE YEARS I HAD ATTAINED IT. IT WAS COLD. OH COLD ENOUGH BUT IT WAS ALSO STILL, WONDERFULLY STILL AND VAST LIKE THE COLD STILLNESS OF SPACE IN WHICH THE STARTS REVOLVE. After transferring the texts and basic and many additional layers followed. A big part of my work is watching and the painting and colors are in a permanent conversation with me. The first part is very expressive, wild and intuitive. The final process is reducing, shaping out and detailed work with focusing.

WHAT IS MY ART LANGUAGE ABOUT As an artist and an individual, one question runs through my entire life and creative process. To what extent and under what conditions can we, as humans, transform our inner being into an outer existence? Through the analytical approach to this topic, my work shows the struggle between the inner space and the outer form, between closeness and distance, fusion and dispersion. In my creative process I put layers of experienced realities on top of each other, fragments and narratives, my own and from others, consciously and subconsciously. These fragments end up in a mutually dependent and complex tissue, which flattens out onto the existing medium. My process integrates recognizing, uncovering, reducing, linking a slowly appearing existence of what already exists through sublimation into another reality. Transporting what is not obviously visible to the surface is the intrinsic force of my art process. In doing so, I link psychological and philosophical dimensions of the human being, the dilemma of becoming and disappearing and the causality of this to social-societal constraints and artificially created forms.
