Brilliant, contemporary still life oil painting on watercolor paper. This vibrant still life with it's robust colors and semi-abstract style channels the innate beauty and artistry within a bouquet of wildflowers. Inspiration for this dynamic painting came from a simple walk in nature along a trail at the edge of some farmland this summer. As I continued, I was graciously met with an abundance of yellow Coneflowers and amazing Queen Anne's lace growing freely along the perimeter. In creating the arrangement I was drawn to a green vintage jar with it's linear motif and gentle curvatures feeling it would provide just the right foundation for the delicate bouquet. Perhaps reminding me a bit of the earths foundation and nurturing soil. Choosing a palette of luminous hues to capture the essence of the arrangements festive, carefree nature felt organic to the subjects. Incorporating bold lines and simplified forms to carry all the color created a way to express how lifted I felt walking and gazing upon what I collected. The oil painting has lots of visible brushwork and texture to enjoy and was created on a piece of heavy weight watercolor paper. It has also been mounted on mat board for additional support. This is a signed original that is ready for framing!

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
