A different story... six hundred years (between 1800 and 1200 BC) the God of Israel was an excellent protector of the people. But from the year 1200 things began to change. The Israelites entered the promised land, Canaan, and encountered the local population, that is, the Canaanites, much more evolved and developed than them. Now, the Canaanites had been settled in the land for centuries, and therefore they were completely sedentary, they knew agriculture very well, and they lived on the fruits of the field, the vineyards and the product of their livestock. Their God was called Baal, and of course he was the God who provided them with the rains, the harvest, and the fertility of the fields. The most common way they represented it was a snake, symbol of life and immortality. Baal had a female partner, the Goddess Ashera, Goddess of love and fertility. And according to Canaanite beliefs, Baal and Ashera kept relationships to ensure the fertility of the land, herds and human beings. That is why all Canaanite religious festivals were related to the harvest.
