Who am I? I am a self-taught artist, today residing in Finland, with my family. I was born and raised in the beautiful seaside city of Tallinn, Estonia. Art history has been close to my heart ever since I was young – the Renaissance, Impressionism, Surrealism and Cubism. I have admired the creations of the artists from these eras and familiarized myself with their biographies. At the time, I felt that so much beauty had already been created in the world, that there was nothing new that I could offer. Creativity has always been part of my life. I have pursued porcelain painting, wood painting, photography and electronic communications. Design is also one of my hobbies. In 2012, I was introduced to Vedic Art, and have since then painted intuitively. Now, when I have mastered the courage to express myself through painting – playing with colors and achieving a creative flow, experiencing the enjoyment it brings, feels quite amazing. The creative flow is constantly present – I long for the weekends, when I can let it flow freely. I enjoy every brushstroke and each play with color. I never know what I'm creating – the painting creates itself. At some point, my head feels completely empty and I lower my hands – this is the moment when nothing more is to be added – the painting is ready. It is complete, once I am able to unearth a story, events, and characters, and lastly – it is named. After the painting session, looking at the painting – I wonder how I painted it – how I managed to create so many small details – so many layers... Just as every day in life is different, so is the style of my art – each painting is different. An artist usually has his or her own style by which he or she can be identified, but I – I have no such style, or manner, by which one could tell, that this is the work of Raili. So I am unable to answer questions about my style – what it is or if I even have one. I don't want to limit myself, but have a profound need to find a connection to my intuition, which transforms into a painting, a piece of jewellery or another art experience. Often the color palette used inspires me to compulsively seek and execute opposites, even in the same work. My paintings are born like plays of color – giving birth to shapes, rhythm and movement. The colors and shapes form dimensions. Colors give energy, power, heal and create peace.
