Ana Vanessa Urvina (1982) is a venezuelan visual artist based in Miami, Florida. Abstract and colorful her works are inspired by the observation of plants and the nature of the tropic. Her work has been exhibited in several places in Venezuela, Costa Rica, Spain and the USA. She was born and raised in Venezuela, a country where nature embraces almost everything. Nature is definitely her biggest source of inspiration. There are important influences in her artwork like the works of Tarsila do Amaral, Beatriz Milhazes, Adriana Varejão and Gregory Amenoff, her mentor. A way to describe her work, is close to abstract art. A plant, floral and organic kind of abstraction. Her process starts by playing with the forms from nature. In her eyes, leaves, roots, seeds and trees, all acquire new and very different shapes and dimensions. Because of that the majority of her pieces develop from the direct contact and experience with gardens, jungles, woods... Installations and large format paintings are important in her creative process, because she strive to be able to immerse the viewer in her own garden visions. She make sketches where break down plants and animal elements into smaller parts, she bring them together, take them apart and rearrange them turning into micro worlds that she transfer to the canvas, wood, paper or art installations, using diverse materials as acrylic paint, inks, chalk, oil pastel, acrylic or wood sheets.
