Monique Robben was born in The Hague, the Netherlands. Graduated in Textiles and Fashion at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She started out at a nature visitorscenter for the council of The Hague where she made educational paintings for the exhibitions. After she moved to Arnhem she started giving painting lessons for many years on primary schools but also to grown-ups. Nowadays, she paints full time. She used to paint in watercolours and acrylics but since a few years she has started using oilpaints only. Being outdoors gives her lots of new ideas and inspiration wich she translates into new paintings. All aspects wich are typical of the coast inspires her, the clouds, the sea or the beach with interesting textures. But most of all the light that's changing all the time and affects the colours of its surroundings. It's all about the challenge to try to catch that special light and atmosphere. Since she moved to the UK in 2019 she started making ceramic sculptures in raku firing techniques, together with her partner and ceramist Andy Sheppard. http://www.moniquerobben.com
