About The Artwork

I am a ceramic artist. I started working with ceramic right after school under the guidance of my grandmother, a People's Artist of Ukraine. In 2004, I graduated from the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry, specializing in glass and ceramics. I work with ceramic, aiming to liberate it from purely decorative purposes by synthesizing it with metal, wood, resins, and polymers. Combining materials with different properties, allows me to convey intangible life experiences through objects that have weight, density, texture, and occupy a specific place in space. At the beginning of 2020, amid COVID lockdown, I started thinking about a new series of works – "The Road Signs." People echoed the mantra, "the world after COVID won't be the same." Now, in 2024, the wars bring destruction and killing. Lies prevail. "Milk" focuses on such issues as delusion, illusion and obsession. Our world is such a place where appearances are deceptive and desires loom in the shadows. In life like on the road with abolished traffic rules, truth and fiction blend, leaving the traveler adrift in a sea of uncertainty. "Milk" was part of the exhibition XVIII Premio Internacional de cerámica contemporánea CERCO in Zaragoza, Spain.

Art for me is the language of non-verbal communication. Ceramics bears the stamp of arts and crafts and, therefore, is not perceived by many in the context of modern media. I work with ceramic, aiming to liberate it from purely decorative purposes by synthesizing it with metal, wood, resins, and polymers. By transforming my reflections and emotional experiences into an art object, I consciously move away from narrativity. I'm looking for ways to make the material speak not through specific visual figurative images, but rather through the texture itself and paradoxes that arise inside the materials. In general, my artistic practice is driven by the desire to comprehend the meaning of existence. But this goal is unattainable. Once a piece is completed and begins to take on a life of its own, I’m back in action.
