Time here run too slow :Digital printed and curved on photo with frame. The word “asylum” has two definitions. The first describes a retreat, a safe place where one may go to be protected; an asylum in this sense implies a haven where protection is granted by another party. The second meaning, which is seldom used today, is an institution for patients who are mentally ill. In my work, the two definitions overlap but contradict each other. On the one hand, this project represents a form of self-therapy for the artist. In this sense, an asylum is a retreat from the world to a place where the artist feels safe and all his worries slip away. On the other hand, being in such a space can become a form of entrapment; the artist lingers in the same space, and it becomes too difficult for him to leave. There are two ways to experience healing. One is to move the artist's thoughts to the world outside and to face a series of questions in order to heal the sickness. The other way is to stay in the same place and to keep thinking until the end result is discovered.

Prapat Jiwarangsan (b.1979,Bangkok) I am a visual artist from Thailand. I have a strong background in interdisciplinary art and research. I was trained in ceramics and glassmaking, but after studying at London's Royal College of Art, I have shifted my artistic practice to focus on fine arts. In my creative explorations, I usually incorporate a variety of media, especially photography and video, in order to investigate and represent the relationships between history, memory, and politics in Thailand—particularly in relation to the theme of migration. In the past four years, I have researched and developed a practice that explores the experience of migrant workers outside of their home countries. I see my work as a platform for artist, viewers and migrant workers to communicate and learn from each other. My installations have appeared in Bangkok, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Gwangju while my videos have screened at international film events such as Canada’s Images Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Experimenta India, and Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival. Between 2012 and 2015, I worked as a full time lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University. Currently, I am an independent artist, and I am based in Bangkok. http://www.prapat-jiwarangsan.com
