Parité : un plus un est plus

print size: 420mm x 530mm
media: Fresson Print, 250gr archival Bristol paper
signed and dated recto by artist
prints are unique and hand crafted by Atelier Fresson, France, 2017

Exhibited at Shu Champagne Bar & Art Gallery 2017
supported by Pommery Champagne

For this exhibition Jörgen Axelvall selected images comprised of his two favorite subject matters;
portraits and flowers.
Each stand-alone photograph, of either a person or a flower, has its own aesthetic value and story to tell.
When paired together a new subtle narrative comes to life.
The title, Parité : one plus one is more (than two), suggests this literally, but can be viewed as a metaphor for every day life; whether referring to the magic of two people falling in love or an unexpected champagne pairing revealing a new sensation.
The prints for this exhibition were hand-crafted by Atelier Fresson in France with a technique dating back to the invention of printing on charcoal paper by Théodore-Henri Fresson in 1899.

Jörgen Axelvall is a Tokyo based photographer and artist from Sweden. Previous to moving to Tokyo in 2011 Axelvall resided in NYC for 15 years. He tends towards long-term projects: exploring intimacy and solitude; soft- or select-focus evoking abstracted, dream-like realms at once personal, yet universal. Axelvall attempts to seize the utter vulnerability and beauty to transubstantiate the subject into essence of the moment. Axelvall’s visual storytelling interacts with his experimental word. Axelvall exhibits internationally, and has won significant awards: International Winner, New Exposure by Vogue USA, 2013, Athens Photo Festival, 2019, and The 18th Japan Media Arts Festival, 2015. Axelvall has four monographs to date. Since 2018, Jörgen Axelvall has been represented by Ken Nakahashi Gallery in Tokyo.
