ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The painting depicts two blue, stripped trees that dominate the composition revealing their essence and strength by rising towards the sky, and also suggesting ingenuity and consistency in height and shape. The background of the image, combined with yellow, red and blue, creates contrast and dynamics with blue trees while thin, undefined branches, depicted in brown, intertwine and spread in different directions, giving the impression that the branches are in motion, and thus blending with the environment seem almost elusive. This watercolor painting depicts natural beauty, transience and depth and evokes a feeling of silence, loneliness and longing. Trees are witnesses of time, and twigs symbolize something we cannot influence, something out of our sight. The image is dominated by a combination of cold-warm colors, thus creating the magic of winter in a somewhat expressionist way.

I was born in Split, Croatia in 1993, but I grew up in Sinj, a small town in the Dalmatian hinterland. Art was my first love, so even as a child I wanted to go to art school, which I eventually finished in Split, Croatia. During high school, I met with restoration, and after high school I decided to enroll in the faculty for conservation and restoration of art. During my studies, I mostly conserved and restored works, and one of the most prominent places where I worked are the Dubrovnik Cathedral in Dubrovnik – fragments of wall paintings and the Rikard Benčić Factory in Rijeka. My previous works are mostly based on portraits, figures and nudes, but since 2023 I have been intensively engaged in landscape painting. As of 2023, I live in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
