About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by the amazing sculpture “The Lion in Love” (Le lion amoureux) by the Belgian sculpture guillaume geefs (1805-1883) which was based on Aesop’s tale. In 1805 Prince Albert gifted a version of this sculpture to Queen Victoria. When painting this picture, the interaction between all the characters (the girl, the lion, the artist in my painting and above all- the viewer) was fascinating for me to explore and deal with.
