Encaustic painting, layers of pure transluscent beeswax and chalk, cobalt, ultramarine blue, opaque pink pigmen and fluorscent yellow pigment on primed canvas board. The surface is smooth but undulating so is more an object/sculpture than a flat painting. White painted wooden cradle frame on rear, ready to hang. Inspired by the simple act of observing time and movement from ones particular position on the planet. This image is taken from a 3000 year old rock carving (Hallristningar in Swedish) near to my home. The passing of the seasons was observed, marked using symbols and celebrated.

Sweden
The patterns and rhythms of time. Its cyclical repetitions are observed from ones particular position on the planet. Wherever or whoever you are, you are the pivot of that motion. Using the suns passage through the extreme shifts of the year, the actual heat of the sun or the visual translation of scientific experiments and observations that prove the Earth’s rotation. I construct my encaustic paintings by collecting pure beeswax, some natural pigments and wood ash from the Swedish forest to give a deep connection to the place and time I am lucky enough to call safe and home.
