Sunset with grass and water Painting

The sunset is a natural spectacle that involves every element, as it colours everything. I love sunsets in the marsh, as the water doubles the sun and clouds, and the sensations are amplified. The water reflects the grass, and the grass is bathed in water. And the sun colours both the wet tufts of grass and the rippling water. All in a mutual play of reflections and mirroring. I wanted to portray this feeling with paint, capturing with fluid, fast brushstrokes the moment when the sun falls into the water and - like an artist - recolours the world, involving everything. You may have noticed that the sun is not in the centre of the painting. This is intentional, as I wanted the sun, grass, clouds, and water to all be equally significant protagonists within the work. This painting was created en plein air in April 2017, at the edge of a canal in the marshy area of Lake Massaciuccoli, Tuscany. The work is painted in oil on paper, then applied on 100% linen canvas and finally mounted on a fixed fir frame custom-built by the artist. The signature is in the bottom right-hand corner. The painting is protected by a layer of satin acrylic varnish. The work comes with a thin fir frame, with the knots in the wood deliberately in view, in order to tie in better with the natural subject depicted. The frame has been coloured dark brown. It is ready to hang. The overall measurements of the framed painting are: centimetres: 74.8 W x 53.9 H x 3.0 D inches: 29.4" W x 21.2" H x 1.2" D The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. “Sunset with grass and water”is a faithful translation of the original Italian title “Tramonto con erba e acqua”.
