I love early morning light and how things glow in it. Passing this field in Cumbria at dawn I saw these pigs (Gloucester Old Spots I believe) shining as with an inner light. I also liked the shining mud framed by spring flowers and hedgerow, a promise of greener days to come. Just one of those moments that catches your eye and seems destined to become a painting.

Born Cairo, Egypt 19.9.1949. I have painted for my living for over 50 years, through thick and thin. Nowadays I have my studio in West Dorset, previously North Yorkshire. In normal times, I aim to travel for half the year, painting as I go, usually in goache, very portable. All my painting is on a black background, and the image emerges out of the Void, a fairly thrilling process. The subject matter: I only paint what I find beautiful, fascinating, and what makes me happy. These qualities mean the paintings will outlast the whims of fashion.
