Spirit Dance. (Yulunga) *DJ20230303 "Yulunga (Spirit Dance)" is the first track on “Into the labyrinth” the sixth album by Australian band Dead Can Dance, Yulunga means "dance" or "spirit dance", apparently related to the verb yulugi (to dance, to play) in the Gamilaraay language of the Aboriginal Kamilaroi (Indigenous Australians). In an Aboriginal dreamtime legend, Yulunga is a variant of Julunggul, the Aboriginal mythological Rainbow Serpent goddess. Dance has been an important part in many Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. It plays an important role in our ceremonies and celebrations and helps to maintain the culture of our people by passing down stories, songs and traditions from generation to generation. Dance has been used historically to communicate stories and messages about the land, animals and ancestral spirits. It’s also an essential part of healing . This series explores the journey of life through geometric and organic shapes, incorporating graffiti to reflect daily challenges and interactions. It also features Serrano's self-created calligraphy with healing ideograms. Audiophile and vinyl records collector René uses music titles to name his paintings. In this series, the emphasis on the concept of "time" highlights the commitment to the ritual of playing vinyl records, contrasting with the immediacy of modern times. The circular form is also significant in various traditions of native cultures in America and around the world. It is used to represent celestial cycles and movements, as well as to stage initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies.
