Hello, I am Lee Ah-young, an artist focusing on the theme of the relationship between nature and humanity. I primarily work with traditional Korean materials such as Hanji (Korean paper), ink, and white clay, using parks as my main motif. Through these parks, I aim to express emotions such as longing, welcome, and familiarity. Parks remind us of the interplay between human and natural realms, providing a space where we can reflect on our connections to the environment and each other. Through my paintings, I strive to capture the essence of these communal and natural spaces, exploring how they commemorate our shared experiences and memories. The act of connecting with nature and others in parks is represented by the 'filling' of brushstrokes, while the contemplation and solitude often found in these spaces are depicted through 'emptying.' These themes in my East Asian artwork give special meaning to the materials I use, such as Hanji, ink, and white clay. Through these materials, my work explores contemporary themes in a traditional manner, seeking to explore the connections between nature, humanity, and the spaces that bind us together in memory and spirit.
