From the series " The theory of letters evolution ". Letter S, New York. I've done hundreds of graffiti projects during my thirty-year career as a graffiti writer. In my graffiti I have evolved the letters by making them my own, creating my own. So I made this series of paintings, depicting the various letters in different styles. The S is the initial letter of my stage name (SAND) and is therefore like a logo, a brand for me. Here it develops vertically, taking on metropolitan forms. Playing with the thickness of the shapes of the letter, I created volumes with the shapes of buildings reminiscent of the city of New York. Graffiti was born in this metropolis in the seventies and therefore recreating a setting enriches the graffiti. In this interweaving of tracks and buildings I have inserted details to further customize the composition. In the lower part of a roof, some boys are warming themselves with a fire, training to break dance, unaware that a little further on another roof a charming blonde woman is sunbathing. But the most bizarre things happen on the upper floors where other details make us see aliens on a rooftop and King Kong on top of the Empire State Building, intent on spraying with a spray can. Crowning it at the top on the left is the illuminated billboard with the word SAND, which is a sort of signature of the work.

Alberto Silva aka "SAND" is a graffiti writer. His career began in 1994, based on the evolution of letters, with which he created his own personal style. Evolving the letters of the alphabet is the main foundation on which the culture of graffiti writing rests and Sand has made it his life's purpose. His graffiti circulated on subway trains throughout Europe and New York City. It is inspired by the founding fathers of graffiti that originated in the Bronx in the 70s.During his thirty-year career, he has developed an obsessive search for letter shapes. Today his letters have taken on personal forms, embodying sinuous and dynamic forms that sometimes reach the appearance of aerodynamics or abstracts. In addition to hundreds of trains and walls, he also painted many canvases. His art is unconventional, but has developed in the streets illegally, with a form of total freedom. His defiance of the authorities was born to show everyone his name, with an irreverent spirit that despises the rules. He is labeled a vandal, but his graffiti is part of contemporary art. Having always been passionate about the classical art of the Renaissance and therefore the statues of the great masters such as Bernini and Michelangelo, he decided to set the evolution of his graffiti letters in marble. This pure and candid material has brought the letters to their essence, as the absence of colors has simplified them in their essential forms, but at the same time has made them eternal.
