ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Acrylic colours on raw Fabriano Rosaspina paper 285gm. 27.75 x 19.75 in., 70.5 x 50cm. It’s just a hop and a skip for me to go to Bangkok from where I reside, and I travel there regularly for my orchid hobby biz, and just for a change of scene. It’s a busy city and for the few days I’m there I’ll collect photo souvenirs of my little adventures and outings. Slowly I want to turn these into paintings. This is from a recent encounter there. This lady had rescued this cockatoo bird from a poor care situation. The lively colours I used may reflect how I was inspired at the sight of this wonderful bird. Oh but how difficult to capture accurately on photo the bright fluorescence in the pink colour I used for this painting... The close up pictures are to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the work in progress.

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
