ABOUT THE ARTWORK

HOW I (EYE) SEE YOU is a mixed media painting (acrylic, oil, gouache, pastel and paper on canvas). Edges are collaged with sheet music for a unique interior style on your wall, so framing is not necessary. It is UV-varnished for protection and ready to hang. Martina's works are acrylic paintings on a highly textured very unique patterned background using vintage bookpages, sheet music, a medium she prefers due to the aged character of old paper from all over the world. Her major themes are life, emotions, feelings, relationships, moments and events that impact her inspiration. Her paintings are collected throughout the World, and can be found in many public, corporate and private collections. She is represented by 6 galleries and showed her work at many affordable artfairs in Europe. All her works are signed on the side.

Martina Niederhauser paints depth, feeling, and beauty into her portraits of women. She seeks to share without words, painting the canvas as a “diary written in colors” with communicative forms and conjunctive lines: all expressing her life and her world. Inspired by line, Niederhauser paints on a highly textured patterned backgrounds composed of vintage book pages and sheet music. The collages which make up her backgrounds enhance the aged character of old paper from all over the world. Depth is first created in her backgrounds, then brought forward by varied layers of painting techniques as Niederhauser incorporates watercolor, pastel, oil, and gouache and more into her primarily acrylic portraits. Niederhauser’s major themes are life, emotion, feeling and relationships, and impactful moments and events from her inspirational life. Born 1977 and raised in Switzerland, Niederhauser has worked to become a full-time artist after living across three continents (Europe, Asia and Northamerica) and working in the corporate marketing world. When asked what she would do if she couldn’t be an artist Niederhauser says: “I would ask myself what is preventing me from becoming one.” With many successful years of work as an artist, including three studio years in Shanghai and three years in Chicago, Niederhauser's now based in Sarnen, Switzerland with her husband and her teenage daughter.Collected throughout the World, Niederhauser’s paintings can be found in many public, corporate and private collections. Her artwork has been shown in Affordable Art Fairs in London, Amsterdam and Brussels and solo and group exhibitions and art fairs in Innsbruck, Berlin, Sylt, Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna and all over Switzerland.
