About The Artwork

'Genesis' was made in a deep meditative state, where all I could sense was a beautiful symphony playing within myself, and me, the painter, was like an orchestra director instructing the colours so they could follow the symphony and in some way give it a visual form. I think it's not casual I used wooden sticks to create this work, moving them around really like an orchestra director does. This painting, the first of its kind, born in response to my need to control and constrain the process and the outcome of my creativity. As this need was holding me back from experimenting, I've decided to start playing around with ways to make the presence of my rational mind less controlling. At first, I've taken this experience just as a fun way to give more power to my creativity, but once I've completed the work, I realised I had in some way unlocked and revealed something stuck in my subconscious: my need of controlling wasn't just acting on my art, it was governing my whole life. It was a shock to discover how much I had sabotaged myself, my self-expression and my freedom, but I'm so glad it came out as it gave me a chance to change path. This work represents for me the begin of something new both as an artist and as a man, this is my Genesis.

My art is about exploring and exposing the Human Being in its wholeness and complexity: what we can see, like the way a person looks, and what’s underneath, like a person’s story and emotions, her dreams, hopes and fears. For me each painting represents a deep journey into the labyrinth of conflicts, fears and stories that exist in most people’s mind, and also an intimate dive into the beauty of a person’s Soul, where her talents and dreams live. My process is a combination of logic, intuition and imagination, and it also involves going beyond what I’m rationally and consciously aware of, so the colours can fill the canvas from that space too. Depending on how much I’m able to let go of my need to control the process and my urge to give a visual form and meaning to what I’m painting, the final piece can come in the form of a portrait or an abstract work, or a mix of both. During the process, a lot of what is usually hidden in my subconscious comes to the surface. And although this makes it really challenging to understand where the line between what I’m painting and myself is, it also gives me a great opportunity for self-discovery and self-revelation. I work in acrylics. The way they melt together and allow me to paint different layers very quickly works organically with my creative process. I usually finish a painting by adding random splats of colour. These represent the uniqueness in every person. This also creates an adrenaline rush from the knowledge that I could ruin a good work in just a few seconds.
