Amy Salisbury is an Indo-Welsh artist born in Wales and currently residing in Queensland, Australia. With a distinctive approach to painting, Salisbury explores the universe from both above and below, drawing inspiration from the photography of NASA and the cinematography of BBC's Blue Planet series, among other visual sources. Salisbury's artistic practice is characterized by her dynamic use of color and movement, which aim to highlight the beauty of our planet while addressing pressing environmental issues, such as glacier melting and the challenges faced by harsh habitats. Working in her home studio, she adopts a physically immersive technique, moving around her canvases and surfaces to apply paint from various angles. This liberating methodology drives her to continually push the boundaries of creativity, resulting in a mesmerizing array of movement, effects, and finishes that reflect both underwater phenomena and the dramatic vistas of the solar system. Early in her career, Salisbury was introduced to the world of visual effects and large-scale art through her work in scenic art for the Welsh National Opera. This experience profoundly influenced her artistic journey, leading her to further her education at The Courtauld Institute of Art, where she studied the Conservation of Frescoes and the science underlying artistic materials. Salisbury’s works invite viewers to engage closely, exploring intricate details before appreciating the vibrancy of the overall composition. Her contributions to the art world are marked by notable exhibitions and events, including her participation in the Saatchi Other Art Fair in London (2022) and the Shelter Cymru Art Auction in Cardiff (2023). She was shortlisted for the Royal Arts Prize’s IV Edition in 2020 and served as an artist in residence at St Canna’s in Cardiff in 2018. Her exhibition history includes several solo and group shows, such as the “Blue Planet” solo exhibition at Hearth Gallery in Llandough Hospital (2020), the FORM Exhibition at The Art Project (2020), and her earliest solo exhibition at Waterloo Gallery in London (2002). Amy Salisbury's work continues to evolve, drawing attention not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its powerful commentary on the environment.
