ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Photograph by Laure A Leber From a series of paintings on original photographs by Laure A Leber. Exploring my alter ego as a clown. I identify with clowns due to their excessive wearing of many colours and patterns, and their ability to convey the full range of human emotion via their painted expressions. The series was photographed by Laure at Coney Island USA, inside the Sideshow, Freak Bar and Coney Island Museum. It features sideshow star Wendy Blades and fashion professor Jonathan Kyle Farmer as clowns, as well as myself.

Sarah’s extensive client list has included The Telegraph, The Times, Penguin Books, The British Fashion Council, Comic Relief, MAC Cosmetics, Delta Airlines, The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian Mag, Ford Germany, Havaianas AU and Perth Fashion Week. Her accolades include Creative Review’s Best in Book for Illustration 2011, The Metro Award 2012 (shortlisted), and The Coney Island Film Festival 2016 (selected). Sarah has exhibited her art in London, Paris, New York, Portland, Ottawa, Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Brisbane. She creates her art and illustrations by hand, using a wide variety of mixed media. She spends time annually in London and New York, as well as travelling in Europe and North America - with a suitcase of art materials and A4 scanner in her luggage so that she is able to work as she travels. She lives on a picturesque farm on Australia's Gold Coast, where she finds inspiration in the flora and fauna, palm trees and pastel coloured sunsets, and the history of tourism in the locale. Sarah’s art explores contemporary politics and events, celebrity and the perversities of popular culture.
