“1411”, whose title refers to a year in history, is a large panel painting on poplar plywood backed by a wooden frame. The cosmos of artistic imagination this rather non-figurative work emerges from is the construction of a church tower in 1411. The building’s skeletal structure is done but the cladding not just yet. Now a medieval artisan indulges the view over the land, or starts to dream up this view, meanwhile beams, and ropes, and brackets become flashes. As it originally is a work for a church, it could be well hung in a church—to honor its known and unknown raisers (see keywords). It is also a painting that lets the mind wander from its original subject and draws the beholder to spend her time immersed in its non-figurative art-world. This suggests a hall or a waiting room to be the artwork’s place. Thanks to a through groove in the frame’s lathes the work is easy to hang—with or without a gap between artwork and wall.

Christian Kabuß is an internationally established German artist and musician. He studied Medicine at the University of Rostock, then went on to Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design Budapest to practice Fine Art. The artistic language within his paintings is deeply linked to a phenomenological approach to bodiliness, the freedom of subconscious artistic creation, and the theoretical and practical considerations of Design. Kabuß has exhibited in Germany and abroad. His works are present in regional, national and international collections. It is his aim to work as honest as possible, and he tends towards imagery, which is embedded in Lebenswelt, and sound. As a pianist, he performs small intimate concerts. His music is soft, sometimes freely improvised and portrays a sense of a parallel-world. Exhibitions in Italy, Sweden, Germany, China, and Japan.
