ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work belongs to the series "The Queen" which addresses the question of power in the form of portraits of queens in various postures. Here, "The Heart and Stomach of a King", a title which comes from a word said by the Queen of England Elizabeth I, evokes the qualities that a sovereign must have to lead a country and lead his people. These qualities have nothing to do with sex, since it is a woman who utters these words and she rightly claims to have "the heart and the guts" of a king, therefore of a man. It is therefore a question of character, temperament, attitude: man or woman, to lead, one needs courage and endurance, especially for difficult decisions. This painting is a unique piece in mixed technique on canvas that mixes photography, digital composition and acrylic painting. The surface is shiny, with raised squares. The work is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 44 x 34 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 80 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
