"I chanced into the lake to hide my tears Conceal my salty fears Heaving on the grass Gasping at the air, the sky went dark The fire broke upon We slept at last" Although quite somber, this song by Marika Hackman makes me feel at ease. There is a peacefulness to her melancholy. When I was making this piece I wanted to evoke that same sense of peace and rest the stripped back music does and at the same time give a visual of a lake or body of water. The body of water is both literal and metaphoric as humans can delve into their own emotions, taking the form of depression, numbness or just quiet, stillness, peace.
