Alpha Ursae Majoris (Dubhe in Arab), the star which turned into the state o supernova in this picture, is part of the famous stellar constellation Big Dipper (Great Bear). The distance from earth is 124 lightyears. So the depicted Supernova outburst happened at least 124 years ago. Digital drawing.
