Installation, Clay on Ceramic
Size: 98 W x 67 H x 75 D in
This piece is a contemporary version of the classic fairground attraction "Pulling Strings". Instead of worthless prices, you can win new life. The embryos represent the circle of life by eating their own tail (Uroboros). The prices are no surprise; following the thread you can influence the outcome. Natural selection in the hands of people follow other criteria, than when it's left to run its course. How does it feel to have the power in the selection of new life?

Harry Schumacher makes both 3D installations and 2D work as mixed media on felt in lead. In both 2D and 3D work an alternative world is created in which the same elements return in multiple works. When man looks at nature it will always be from the point of view of mankind with a hidden agenda. We see nature as a laboratory for our own needs. We only want to preserve nature if it is not to our disadvantage. (The colour of) blood is used, because for us it is a sign of alarm. The strange combination of the blood and the trees means that we are not capable of determining the wound.
