ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This Manimal Art work is a portrait of John Lydon also known as Jonny Rotten I was watching a documentary on his life so far and was struck by the honesty he has , sometines painful for other to ear he never holds back his acute truth masks a softer side to his nature , he may have been perseeved as agressive but to quote a line of his song anger is an energy, hes not afraid to speak out and continues to do so , his opinion., its just not the bandwagon he walks his own mile and that admirable if you agree with his words or not. villified at one stage now hero worshiped i get that both the extremes dont sit well with him, but its only my point of veiw. the picture is made from various images throughout his musical career but the man alone with his shadow stands strong. I chose the animal Aye Aye to reflect the qualities of his character. The Aye Aye is often hunted often thought to be dangerous but in fact its a nocturnal quite animal only shunned by the way it looks. Punk is a term attached to Jonny Rotten from the short lived days of the Sex Pistols, it know holds more meaning than the first reason for it use. If it stands for the individual, the right to be yourself, then the phrase came to fit the man.
