Scotland, as you are no-doubt aware, is not short of, words for rain, deep-fried what-have-you, beautiful red-haired women, and historical architecture. Indeed - quickly focussing on the latter before your mind wanders - we have so many castles, fortified homes, brochs, bridges and stone circles that a great many of them are abandoned to time and the elements. Anywhere else in the world this bridge would be a major historical artifact in need of protection, but here in Scotland - where we have more historic architecture than money - it is just a bridge for a farmer so he can access his sheep fields. Which, judging from the tracks he does pretty regularly as part of his commute. This is a live sketch sitting by the side of the burn in the late afternoon on an early spring day. Sketched over facing pages with two additional pages.
